Saving Your Natural Tooth
Root canal therapy is designed to remove infected or damaged tissue from inside the tooth—called the pulp—and replace it with a special medicated filling that restores the tooth’s strength and function. This procedure not only saves your natural tooth but also helps preserve the surrounding jawbone and supporting tissues.
By addressing the issue early, root canal treatment can prevent the need for more invasive (and costly) procedures in the future—making it both a tooth-saving and cost-saving solution.

Common signs you may need a root canal include:
If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, book a consultation at our Mississauga clinic—early treatment can make all the difference.
The Root Canal Treatment Plan
Root canal therapy is typically completed over one or two appointments and can be performed by either your general dentist or a specialist known as an endodontist. Here’s what you can expect from the process at our Mississauga clinic:
Diagnosis & Treatment Planning
We begin by taking a detailed X-ray of the affected tooth and surrounding bone to identify the source of the problem. If there’s an active infection or swelling, your dentist may prescribe antibiotics to reduce inflammation ahead of the procedure. This helps ease discomfort and makes the treatment smoother and more effective.
Preparing the Tooth
Once you’re ready for treatment, we’ll gently numb the area to ensure you’re completely comfortable. After the area is frozen, we create a small opening in the tooth to access and remove the damaged pulp, bacteria, and decayed tissue. This step relieves pressure and stops the infection from spreading.
Cleaning & Sealing
If the infection is extensive, medication may be placed inside the tooth to eliminate any remaining bacteria. In cases requiring more than one visit, a temporary filling will be applied to protect the area in between. Once your tooth is thoroughly cleaned and infection-free, we’ll seal it with a permanent filling and prepare it for a crown if needed.
Cost of a Root Canal in Mississauga
The cost of a root canal can vary from patient to patient, but it’s often a more affordable solution over time compared to tooth extraction and replacement. For those with insurance, the average out-of-pocket cost for a root canal typically falls between $200 and $500+. Without insurance, you can expect to pay anywhere from $600 to $1,200 or more, depending on the case.
- The severity of the infection
- The location of the tooth (molars are generally more complex and costly)
- The health of surrounding teeth and gums
- Any complications that require extra time, precision, or medication
Why is there such a wide cost range?
Since every case is different, we don’t offer quotes over the phone. After a full dental exam, we’ll provide a personalized estimate—and if you have insurance, we can help you submit a pre-approval to understand your exact out-of-pocket expenses before starting treatment.
Is There an Alternative to a Root Canal?
An infected tooth isn’t just painful—it can be dangerous. Left untreated, an abscess or severe infection can spread and lead to serious health issues. While many view root canals as a last resort, they are in fact the safest and most effective way to eliminate infection and preserve your natural tooth.
If you’re feeling unsure about root canal treatment, we encourage you to come in for a consultation. We won’t begin any procedure without your full understanding and consent, and we’ll always explore every option available to relieve pain and protect your health.

Frequently Asked Questions
Not anymore! Thanks to modern techniques, advanced technology, and a gentle, patient-focused approach, most root canals today are no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. In fact, the procedure usually brings fast relief from tooth pain caused by infection.
Antibiotics can reduce swelling or manage symptoms temporarily, but they can’t eliminate the source of the infection—the damaged pulp inside the tooth. Once the pulp is infected, it must be removed. A root canal is the only safe and lasting way to resolve the problem.
Most root canal procedures take one or two visits. Simple cases can often be completed in 30 to 60 minutes, while more complex cases—especially those involving molars—can take closer to 90 minutes.
Coverage varies depending on your insurance plan. After your consultation, we can provide you with a detailed estimate to submit to your provider. If you’re unsure about coverage or hesitant about treatment, we’re happy to walk you through your options.
In most cases, yes—especially for molars and premolars, which handle the majority of your chewing pressure. A crown helps protect and strengthen the tooth after a root canal. Front teeth (like incisors and canines) may not always need a crown, depending on the extent of the treatment and how much tooth structure remains.
